If you are running Windows XP, click Start, Run..., and type in cmd in the dialog box that appears. This will open a DOS session. Type ipconfig at the command prompt that appears on the screen and press key. You will get a few lines of results, one of them being your IP addr.
Now, if you have a router between you and and your cable or DSL connection, then the IP address you see is what the router is assigning to your computer. The outside world cannot see that address - they see the address your service provider has assigned to your router.

Open a DOS window (also called Command Prompt), usually under Accessories on the Start menu, and type:
ipconfig /all
This will show you all the network connections you have, and the IP address assigned to each.

Ok, you've gotten 2 main answers - go to whatsmyip.com and use ipconfig. If you're on a LAN/access the internet through a router, you'll notice these numbers are different. The one shown in ipconfig is your address to other computers on the network, while the one shown on whatsmyip is your router's address (your address to computers on the outside/the internet).
Hope this helps!
