for school, minimal makeup is fine. especially if you have dark eyes, you don't need a whole lot.
get a powder compact (match the color to the skin on your face, not your wrist, and if in doubt, go lighter rather than darker). if you have blemishes, you can buy a concealer (a little tube of foundation) that you can dab on in your problem areas. i wouldn't use foundation except maybe at nighttime events ... but young skin is so beautiful it's really unnecessary, and it also might cause breakouts if you are already a little prone to getting pimples.
you'll also want an eyeshadow, you can start with a two-color combo (loreal has a nice duo with a creamy coffee color and a neutral brown). you can also buy color, but many girls put on a VERY thick layer of colored shadow, and it's really not flattering on anyone, unless you're in costume. put the lighter, neutral shade over your whole lid from just underneath your brow to the eyelash line. then sweep the darker shade in the crease of your eyelid. if you decide to use color, go sparingly, and use it in place of the darker shadow. for an evening look, reapply the darker shadow and also sweep it right underneath your bottom lash line for a dramatic smoky look.
loreal i believe also offers a line of eyeshadows, eyeliners and mascaras specifically for your eye color. this might be the way to go for a beginner ... you don't have to pick colors or anything! :)
blush is optional - i prefer to use it, but some women never do. using a brush, spread it over the apples of your cheeks toward the hairline.
i reserve eyeliner for nighttime only ... and you can wear it on the top or bottom lid. you can also use a flat eyeshadow brush and your darker shadow to create the same effect, just rim your eyes with the shadow. there are pencil and liquid liner varieties - liquid is a bit difficult to navigate, i would suggest a kohl pencil eyeliner for your first if you decide to buy it. also buy in deep brown or black. the colored liners are fun - wait until you have more experience to try them, though.
finally, mascara - a girl's best friend. buy in brown/black and don't forget to buy an eyelash curler! curl your lashes first, before you put on the mascara. carefully sweep the mascara from the root of your lashes to the tip, and then mascara the bottom lashes too.
for lips, gloss is pretty popular on college campuses - look for the little pots of slick, sheer gloss. the color of the gloss is pretty irrelevant, as it all looks clear on your lips. you might try a light lipstick shade, but it's not necessary with a fresh-faced look.
if you have the money, invest in a good set of brushes - one for powder, blusher, a couple different ones for eyeshadow. they will last forever if you take care of them and also provide the most "flawless" look.
you might go to a department store ... you'll pay more for the makeup, but you get high quality items and expert advice. the ladies working the counter are very knowledgable about makeup, skin care, and how to apply and remove each product. and they usually give you a free makeover when you go in! ask to hold a mirror and watch the lady apply the makeup, she's a professional!

Go to a Lancome, Or M.A.C. make-up counter at the mall or department store or the closest Sephora. They will help you apply your make-up, try different colors, and show you what would work best for you. Your best bet would probably be Sephora because they have EVERYTHING there, so you can pick and chose from different brands, colors, and they will give you all the help you need. Just make sure you go to a place that has some sort of make-up counter, where they will do your make-up for you and show you everything. It can get a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it when you're looking for a new look and new make-up.
For lip Gloss: Try Lancome Juicy Tubes..THEY ARE THE GREATEST!!

purples and pinkish colors are best for your eyes...use very soft colors...actually you can use about anything, just keep it simple..just get a nice pinkish gloss or lipstick, not too bright and a nude lip liner first, then the gloss on top of that...use brown mascara and a little blush and you will be fine...
