There is no cure for Diabetes yet. It seems to be a genetic disorder, and the gene has been located, but no vaccine has been developed. All that can be done is to control diet & exercise. Obviously, no sugar (Diabetics can't process it because their bodies don't produce insulin which processes it) and limited carbohydrates (which turn into sugar in the body).
By the way, smoking has nothing to do with diabetes, for the rabid anti-smoker who wrote in.

First, to say "there is no cure for diabetes," as another answerer suggests is ridiculous. That's like saying we don't know the cause of diabetes, which in most cases we do: dietary transgressions or nutritional deficiencies are the primary reason high blood sugar, and related metabolic issues emerge.
Remedies: 1) first in importance is eating low glycemic foods. Did you know, for instance, that white sugar is lower on the glycemic index than puffed rice? We get mesmerized by abstraction when we use terms like "carbohydrate," which technically could describe anything that contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and is organic in nature. Starch is actually pure glucose - that is, glucose molecules attached to one another - which means starch is readily decomposable into glucose. Sucrose ("table sugar") is actually fructose attached to glucose, and therefore can have less of an effect. Understanding the glycemic index explains why certain "complex carbs" are actually risk factors for developing blood sugar issues, whereas simple sugars such as fructose (relatively low on the glycemic index) are not as bad as is commonly believed.
2) Alpha Lipoic Acid is sometimes called "nature's insulin," and has many beneficial roles in our body, e.g. antioxidant, both water and fat soluble. Taking 250 mg once or twice a day, can dramatically lower blood sugar, helping us to regain homeostasis.
3) Herbs like Feunegreek, Cinnamon, Bitter Melon, Gymena and many others all have clinically proven (see PDR on Herbal Supplements) blood sugar lowering effects.
4) Removing Dairy and Wheat can go a long way to prevent a whole battery of endocrine and metabolic disorders that can contribute to or even cause blood sugar disorders.
The "cure" for diabetes is as simple to understand as soon as we look at the cause. Doctors go out of their way to deny the relationship between food, and food quality, and disease and health, effectively discrediting themselves as "doctors" - remember they take the Hippocratic Oath in order to become health authorities, and what did Hippocrates say: "let food be thy medicine." What a bunch of Hippocrites they've become.
