A retaliation pitch is always right unless the following:
1. You throw at the batters head
2. You miss him and keep throwing at him
3. Don't hit him with a 95mph fastball
4. Don't throw behind him
5. Let it die after the retaliation

Damn...okay, my first thought is to get you all some hate therapy, although if you root for the Red Sox you're certifiable already, so save the money.
Onto the question, and it's a good one for a DEVOUT YANKEES FAN - was it right what Randy did?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY
Jason Johnson hit Posada unintentionally (his stuff is too strange to be on target). However, when you see how he pitched to Jeter's thumb all throughout the game, Posada knows Johnson's got dirty thoughts. So naturally, Posada exchanges words when he gets plunked hard in the funny bone.
Perez comes up, gets breezed by Randy, and spits nails. (Cry baby!) This is called protecting a player in this case, Posada. Justifiable? Hell yes! It's why you're on a team. Sure, he got tossed. Randy knew he would, which is why he **calmly** headed for the clubhouse. FYI - Calmness and Randy Johnson don't get used together that often, people.
The five-game suspension seems harsh, and he will appeal, but with Randy's unpredictability of late, heck, it might just help him build up the fire to pitch like he knows how.
Bottom line - not only is it justifiable, it's true TEAM baseball.

What Randy Johnson did was correct and how the game used to be played. First of all his catcher gets plunked of course RJ is going to retaliate. And in the manner in which RJ did it is perfectly fine he did not aim for the players head or any other body part than can get injured. The 5 game suspension in my opinion is too harsh.
RJ not only gained the respect from his teammates but from most Yankee fans.

Even though I am an Indians fan to the core & hate the Yankees, retaliation is part of the game. In fact, the umpires have tried to take it out, but no one crowded the plate on Bob Gibson or Nolan Ryan. It's an important part of the game & the brushback pitch is one4 of the mst effectivce tools a pitcher can use. Besides, English would not be near as colorful with out the term "chin music" (the sound of a fastball blowing underneath the batter's chin).

Yep, its part of the game. Warning the team actually hurts the team that got hit, because they can no longer pitch inside if they want to stay in the game and not make it look like retaliation. And if they stay away, the end up walking a lot of batters. The other team doesnt have to worry about it, because they arent retaliating. I think it is stupid to suspend player for hitting a batter, especially a guy that is going into the HOF, he should be able to pitch inside.

Absolutely yes. He didn't even HIT Perez. It was just a brushback pitch.
Pitchers have to protect their players... and Yankee pitchers never seem to any more.
Let me ask you a question. Do you think if Larry Bowa was the manager, they'd have just brushed Eddie Perez back?
Why, exactly, was Johnson suspended for this?

Absolutely, hes in a new ballclub and he needed to show his teammates and the fans that he was a yankee and that he was there to protect his players. It was a great thing for Randy to do while he was still being accepted by the Yankee organazation which includes fans and players.

Absolutely. The game should be policed by the players, much like that of hockey.
