I think as a whole any new development or improvement in technology or methods of transmission and delivery of musical product is very good for music. The internet specifically the use of computer files like mp3, wav and wma have allowed for a greater range of artists to get exposure... virtually ANYONE can be a star. People also have opportunities to get exactly the music they want and not waste money on junk. Internet has been really good for music as a whole.

For me the Internet allows music to flood into my life and that is what music needs. Music as a whole needs audience, it needs to be heard. The Internet allows that to happen more freely than anything else that came before.
Live performances are limited to the audience it can reach. CDs allow music a larger audience, but the delivery system forces the consumer to buy more what it doesn't want that what it does want. The Internet allows the audience, a large audience, (but not larger than the buying public at this point) to buy just what it wants and as much as it can get.
Now for musicians it is a dual-edged sword. Great for when you're making a name for yourself, but not as good when you have a name. For record companies, in the future, it may not be a good thing for them. Now they still hold the bulk of the consumers, but if the consumer buys from the Internet more in the future, the record companies will change with the will of the consumer or die.
Music as a whole benefits, when more people get their music that way, Music will sing a happy song!

I think it's good for those who need a chance to get their voice heard. But bad for the bigger successful artists because others are always getting their music online instead of the stores.

It's good. As it has allowed a lot of new bands to gain an audience that in the old days they would have struggled to find. Obviously, on the downside it also allows even more dross to flood the markets.
