For many people, it is a shock when they realize that they are on the path to old age. In women, menopause is confirmation that they are past middle age and are on their way to old age. While some women are relieved, some face the menopausal phase with apprehension.
The First Signs
Mood swings usually signal the start of menopause in many women. During this time, women may feel that they have no identity or that they are unwanted. They may also feel that they are unattractive. Extreme mood swings can range from being irritated and unreasonable to being hopelessly depressed and weepy.
The First Reactions
It may take some time to put two and two together but when a woman realizes that she is having the first signs of menopause, she will find that the experience is not actually terribly scary. It does seem like she is losing something important, which is the ability to bear a child, but a woman will soon realize that at 45 years old (or up), the loss of this ability does not seem like a bad idea after all.
How to Cope
Women who enter the menopausal phase tend to become terribly insecure and worry about many things. They wonder and worry if their husbands or male friends still find them attractive. They worry about their femininity. They become overly conscious and worry about their kids watching them forget where they put the keys and forget names. Overall, the menopause period is the most difficult period for women.
Women need to know and understand that menopause does not affect how their loved ones see them. It does not diminish the love that their families and friends have for them. In many cases, loved ones are able to cope well with all the changes occurring.
Facing Menopause
There are many ways to fight the symptoms of menopause, due mostly to the advances made in science over the years. Therapies, drugs and alternative treatments specifically aimed for women undergoing menopause are available today. It is important for women to look at menopause as a phase, not an ailment. Menopause involves a number of psychological dimensions but the transition phase is what women need to face head on.

How are you going to combat menopause when it is a natural occurance in any woman who mensturates? It will happen, that simple. Yes, it has some affects that we don't really like. For instance, hormone fluxuations, hot flashes, waist thickening (have you noticed that men also have this at middle-age). Your desire for sex may change, but it won't be alot different. You can safely take hormone replacement therapy (see your doc) and illimiate some of those symptoms. It really helps keep your skin soft and smoothe and eases the flashes. Keep up with moderate exercise and you won't have to worry about bone problems. Joint pains...it's a fact of life. Honey, we're all getting older. Just be the BEST you can be at any age and love yourself as you are. Worry about what you can control. God Bless you.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and I've been through it,I am 56 years. For a start.let me tell you that all woman are different. Because your hormone levels are dropping your whole body goes off balance. We have 3 types of hormones - Progesterone, eostrogen and a small amount of the male hormone testosterone. If there isa drop in one or more of these hormones we go a bit nuts.Symptoms include:
Mood swings
Hot flushes
Night Sweats
Headaches
Oestoporosis (bones )
Ok, so what we have to do is replace these hormones and help keep our bones in good condition.
Now you have a choice. you can either go on HRT, your doctor will advise you on which type. I do not agree with it. I've been on it, and I ended up with muscular spasms in my arms and chest. We all fail to realise that this treatment is man mad with synthetic hormones and can lead to breat and uterine cancer.
The closest thing you can take to natural hormones is the herb Black Cohosh
and Sage for the hot flushes OR you take a combination pill with various herbs including black cohosh in it .You can get this from any health store.
Also, you must take extra calcium, the MAXIMUM RDA is 1000mg but if you take a combination pill do not take a seperate calcium pill. I take 'menopace'(combination) and black coshosh
It normally takes 5 years for the change to complete, but some can have symptoms carry on for years after the change has complete.I started in 1996 and I still have the night sweats but since I've been treating myself I feel a lot better. Women do not have to suffer, if our creator made these natural medicines they must be better than what man makes.
