I live in San Diego, California and it certainly is a paradise. Perfect weather year round. I never use a heater or an air-conditioner. I surf and play beach volleyball 12 months a year. Skiing is a short car ride away. Mexico, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, the desert, the mountains are all near.

I guess Hawaii would be a nice place to live as well, but I can't think of any other place in the country that I would want to live. By the way, I come from New York.

Indiana is a pretty nice place to live. You get to see all four seasons and it doesn't have huge cities or anything. It's really cheap to live here. You can get a new house built for a little over 100,000 and that's pretty good.

That's a difficult question because the answer depends so much on ones personal circumstances, interests, and history.

I choose to live in rural Texas after a lifetime of living in big cities (New York, Montreal, St. Louis, Dallas) and spending considerable time in places like London and Paris.

So for me this is the best place to live but I'd have to be either insane or a fool to argue that rural East Texas is the "best" place to live for anyone. Indeed, I think anyone who is young would have to be crazy to prefer living here. There's very little nightlife, its socially (and politically) very conservative and the Universities in the region are all second rate.

On the other hand, taxes are some of the lowest in the country, there's almost no crime, and you can buy a brand new house on a couple of acres of land for less than $175,000.

So its great for me and if I want some nightlife I can get to the local airport in 15 minutes, change planes in Dallas or Houston and go to Paris or Amsterdam for a long weekend.

Fort Mill, South Carolina. Its just a tiny little town and the weather is great. The beach is just a couple hours away and the Mountains is a little less just the opposite direction. Panthers stadium is maybe 10 min away and Carowinds (its a paramount park) is half in the city and half in Charlotte, NC. Theres a lake. I dont know I'll probably never move away. I love it here WAY too much.

The state that has the lowest murder rate is the best state in which to live. Murder rate is an excellent social indicator of the condition of living and life in a state. I think it's one of the mid-western states.
