You know what I mean. A representative republic, in which political minorities are represented, instead of just the majority of each district or state. A parlimentary system, like most of the developed world, except for the UK and Greece.

We have never been a Democracy nor do we pretend to be.

We are a republic and the 2 party system has formed because there are no points for 2nd place in the US system of government.

I personally believe that parliamentary systems are better Representative republics BECAUSE they allow for multiple party's.

Unless the government changes drastically the best way to effect change is to work within your party and pay attention to who is elected at primaries. The real work is done before the general election even starts.

A Republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution). A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority (mob rule). A Republic recognizes the inalienable rights of individuals while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs (the public good). When asked what form of government we have, Benjamin Franklin said "A Republic, if you can keep it".

In short, we don't have a real democracy and never have. Our constitutional republic makes it imperative we all VOTE.This ensures the will of the majority is being representated. If you don't vote, then don't complain. If you complain, then thank the founding fathers for giving you that right!

Since the Second Law of Thermodynamics applies to humans too, it is easier for us to do any given thing in a way that effects less order and sustainability than in a way that brings great unity, balance, and structure. A two party system, unfortunately, is less inclusive of all viewpoints and is consequently less structured and unified, and thus is easier to sustain than a multiple party system, by the aforementioned law. On the issue of real issues, it is much easier for leaders to pick a few things they feel adamant about and build their platforms on those rather than seek out the issues that affect us the most and need more action in; in short, there are exponentially more ways to be lazy or ineffective than otherwise, so that is most of what we are to expect in politics or any other endeavor if leaders are not constantly reminded of their abilities to go against the flow of entropy, so to speak.

If you studied American history at all, you'd know that we are not now nor have we ever been a "real democracy." Our system of government is a representative republic, not a democracy.
That we continue to try to push "real democracy" on other countries is extremely hypocritical...

Because America has always been an oligarchy, rule by a few, masquerading as a democracy. The rich, the capitalists, control everything. Democracy and real issues would overthrow the oligrachy, which they certainly don't want.

because the only people in high offices are also businesspeople with business interests who take bribes from businesses and listen to businesses about business needs, and if we had a representative of the people, they wouldn't be able to get anywhere because they are not representing a business interest. this is why the top 10% pay less than 2% of the taxes and control 90% of the wealth and most of the top 10% are either in govornment or have dealings with govornment office-holders.
