System performance can be affected by much more than simply hard drive space.
Do you know how much RAM you have? If your computer is using all of its physical memory (RAM), it'll have to use virtual memory to run your programs. Virtual memory in Windows is a file on your hard drive which acts as an extension to your physical RAM. Unfortunately, virtual memory is extremely slow compared to physical memory, and your system will slow to a crawl when using it.
If you are using a Windows PC, you can check the amount of RAM you are using by pressing ctrl-alt-del and going into your performance tab.
You can reduce the amount of RAM your computer is using by doing the following:
1. Make sure your computer is free from malicious software (Use a spyware scanner such as ad-aware)
2. Close programs running in your system tray (bottom right next to the clock)
3. Set programs to not start when the computer starts (Start>Programs>Startup, or for more comprehensive startup settings, go Start>Run and type in "msconfig" (without the quotes). From there you can set the computer to never allow non-microsoft programs to start when your computer starts.)
Hope this helps!

Try searching for AdWare... get a program like "Adaware SE" (one of the best on the market) and see if you find anything running in the background on your computer.
If you have too many programs open running in the background, that can do it. If you have Windows XP, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and go to the list of "Running Processes." See which process is taking up the most memory and see if closing it boosts your performance. Sometimes some unneeded background applications can really hurt your computer's performance.
Also, try and find a "Registry Cleaner" program online. That can help clear up some loose ends in your computer's internal registry (the place where all of your computer's information is essentially stored).

First of all make sure that there is no spyware installed on your PC as spywares really down the performance of the PC. Use a program named Crap cleaner from www. ccleaner.com. It will delete crap from your PC. And if you are ready to pay some money for good performance of your PC then go for PC tools spyware doctor and registry mechanic (very recommended), they will surely help you a lot. and if you are looking for some trialware then go for Iolo's system mechanic.

You probably have a virus. Go to start and run and type in msconfig. This will bring up your start up options - deselect all the start up files - this will stop viruses from loading.
Go to Limewire.com and download Norton Anti Virus. After following the directions for installlation - and its working properly, run msconfig again and select all of the start options. This will load the viruses so that Norton can find and destroy them.

If it was running fine and now it is very slow you have picked up some malware. Run Ad-AwareSE, spybot, Windows defender. You may have to reboot and start in safe mode (F8 at startup) to clean some stuff out.

That and that's amazingly powerful to objective blowing out the airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust on your pc. do no longer do it with a nicely-easy living house vacuum, in any different case the static from the vacuum will reason your pc to malfunction.

Try a spyware program like ad-aware.
Clean up your start up group
Go to Start, Run - then type in msconfig
It will bring up the Configuration tool
Go to the Start Up tab
Click anything you don't need to run at startup. You don't need any one of these at start up.
Then Reboot

you probably have a lot of programs running in your process list...go to your task manager and check the processes....Internet explorer frequently stays on your process list even after you close it, sometimes several of them....but DONT try to close programs through the process list..this will be very damaging to windows....restart your computer and then check the process list...
