don't foget, the 2 wire pairs need to be hooked up in a unique way. Pin 1 & 2 / 3 & 6 need to matched. The others really don't matter.

An RJ45 connector is like an enlarged telephone jack as it has 8 wires instead of 4. The other important thing to remember is that the cable must be a "straight through" if you're connecting multiple devices together like a modem, router and a computer. If you're just connecting your computer to the modem you need a "crossover" cable instead.
