I won't jump on you. Consider me a friend. You may be right. I don't know if the government has that goal. My perception though is that the government, which in this case I'm mainly referring to our elected representatives that make policy, doesn't have a history of making decisions based on the best thing to do or the most sensible. Votes speak loudly. Immigrants, especially Mexican, are very influential in elections. Candidates spend alot of time catering to the Spanish vote. A politician who wants to be elected or re-elected would be foolish in a state that has a high population of voting immigrants, to not promise them things to win votes. The President does the same thing. We'll never know what a president or other politician really thinks or what he says behind the walls of his own home. If we did, we wouldn't elect them. Regarding your question, I think the government does send a message that we want to be sensitive to our immigrants and we tout how important they are to the work force. And at the same time the same officials talk as though they want border control, strict enforcement, etc etc. It's an art of catering to both sides of an issue without we the voters figuring out what's going on.
At least that's the way I see it in a thumbnail sketch form.

The government doesn't have a problem with immigrants. . .who are LEGAL anyways.
They do have a problem with the ones who skip customs, don't get their green card, work illegally, don't pay taxes, and those who use dead peoples Social Security Numbers to get around the system. Why should they be held above our laws? I'm white and I have to pay taxes, so why don't they? If they want to get into our country so bad, then do it the right way. Don't get all bent out of shape when the immigration laws come raining down on you. Be thankful there is such a country that allows so many people in cause take a long, hard look around, how many other 1st world countries allow as many people in as the US does?

if you are talking about the american government, that would be true. i am from romania and in our country it became a habit for students to leave to america for the summer to work, because american jobs (the nasty ones, even paid with only a few dollars) seem like heaven. that is the general conception for most immigrants - usa means making money, a stable future, safety, etc. now you have to look to the other point of view - the normal american citizen - maybe unemployed for months and living on state allowences will refuse to work as a trashman, waiter, etc for a small to medium wage. but an immigrant will do mostly anything for only a couple of dollars. I recommend a movie - documentary, if you can find it - "The Big One" - it's about corporations and america's new found love for third world countries and cheap labour.

There are many levels to this question and I doubt if I have answers that will reach any of them. The fact that most all Americans are immigrants is not what is at the heart of the problems we have now. We may have been immigrants, but we learned a common language (English). This was done without having to give up the heritage of our ancestors. What we have now is a large number of people who have come to this country and do not try to intigrate inot the American society, but instead just want us to adopt theirs. Then you have large portions of money being sent out of the country that do not stay to benefit the communities where it was earned. Then there is the infrastructure that does not recieve the benefit of taxes that are paid by the citizens of this country. The Social Security that is not paid, but someone will want when they are old enough to retire. The extra costs of education that are added to the community without the benefit of taxes. There are many more things, but we don't have enough space.

Yes the gov't wants illegal immigrants so these BIG Companies can pay these poor people a very small salary with no benefits and inhuman work conditions just so they can make big profits. And who is going to complain about this, the illegal immigrants, I don't think so!!!Make these companies pay what they should be paying and give some type of benefits.. As the saying goes " The Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer> This is govt for you.

Yes you are correct.
Here is a more in-depth explanation:
1. Right now in our history all 3 portions of our 'government' are controlled by one party, Republican.
2. Republicans are controlled by big business.
3. Big business exploits illegal workers in order to make higher profits and not have to pay social security, workers comp., etc... on that employee. Also being able to get a hard worker cheap that they do not have to worry about sueing them later for any reason.
So, to answer your question. Yes the 'government' doesn't want to get rid of illiegal immigrants because they would lose the support of big business which is who is really in control.

The government is keeping illegals because immigrants are the building blocks of this great nation. The only people in this country who are not illegal immigrants are Native Americans.

You are partially correct- the government wants to keep the immigrants because they do important jobs for less than minimum wage. They are also keeping them because rounding up the immigrants would be an impossible task. Also, many have lived her for years and have had children in the US (which are US citizens because they were born here)- they don't want to break up families.

I don't understand your question. The government is trying to cut down on illegal immigrants. Your statement about trying to keep immigrants to provide cheap labor is confusing. If it is a legal immigrant, they will be paid at minimum wage or higher because they are legal. I don't understand what you are trying to ask.

If the government allows them to stay here at a cheaper pay they are only hurting the economy. Most of the pay will go back to Mexico and it will still make it hard for Americans to find good paying jobs.
Mexicans don't just pick veggies they also work in restaurants, landscaping and construction to just name a few. After Katrina when my husband lost his job he couldn't find one in construction since all the illegals who flooded our area had been hired.Them coming here, being disrespectful, committing crimes and sending US money back home only benefits them and their families back 'home'.
