I'm going to guess that you are asking this because you don't plan to go into the field of biology (or medicine, etc.) and feel that learning about it is a waste of time. There are some things you'll learn in biology class that will make the world around you make more sense. For example, in Biology class, you'll likely learn how plants and animals reproduce. That's great information to have if you ever plan to have a child yourself or have a garden. You'll also learn about genetics which will help you understand how traits and disorders are passed down. You'll learn about bacteria, viruses, disease transmission and immunity and that's great to know when you or someone around you gets sicks.
Studying biology in HS and a little in college has really been valuable to me. Even though now I develop websites and manage projects.

Biology is the study of plants and animals. Life is impossible without both. After all we're animals ourselves. Of course, the word "need " in your question is a trick word. We don't "need" to study anything, we could remain ignorant and live from hand to mouth like the other animals.
The other animals are doing just fine. They're living their lives, finding food for themselves and their offspring, and preserving the earth in its present form for the rest of time. But, would you like to return to living in a cave, scrounging for nuts and berries?
Knowlege is what puts us in comfortable houses and enables us to eat fine foods.

Well, without going much into it, if you did not study something, how would you know anything about it?
There is a lot of great detail, and the more you know, the better you are with something.
Also, if you did not study bilogy, how would we have Doctors?

Why do people need to study anything? To get better at it.
Just one example: How would you like to go to a doctor that doesn't know anything about your body.
