umm well it helped me to show them how to do it then they all line up in a line and practice the STROKE Only standing up in the water then after they get tht down put there breathing in
then for the kicks line up on the wall hang on and kick there feet
you walk down and make sure everyone is doing it right
and if there not help them but kicking there feet the way there suppose to
after your done with the lesson its always fun to play a game with what u learned tht day cause they always remeber something tht was fun then you wont have to teach it a bunch more

have fun at work

Have you taken any swim instruction courses? Are you a registered swim instructor? Something is out of whack here!
How little are the kids you will be teaching? If they're really little, like pre-school, don't even worry about teaching any strokes. Just play water games with them to get them familiar with being in the water, splashing, getting their heads wet. Then you can encourage them to keep their eyes open underwater by scattering pennies in the water that they can pick up. Whoever picks up the most gets a prize.
From there you can go to teaching them to float, lunging into the wall in a glide and stretching out, holding the glide, pretending to be surfboards, until they touch the wall. Once they are doing that, they can add a kick.
Only after they are comfortable in the water do you begin to think about eaching strokes.
But I'm still concerned that youdon't seem to have any qualifications whatever!

The key is to get them comfortable in the water. I can't help much since i don't know how little these little kids are. I used to do swim lessons, now I am a swim coach, so I don't do as much teaching basics(except for in summer league...) If they are first timers, get them used to the water. Try to get them to relax.
If they can do that teach them to kick first. then how to use their arms. Teach them to scoop the water with their hands. Teach freestyle and backstroke first. Breaststroke is very complicated to learn, save this for a long time...especially the kick...i have kids on my swim team who still don't have it right. That's a start. Good luck.

first teach them how to tread the water, and never to panic, then start with the basic doggy paddle of which will be fun for them as they learn, then just take it a step at a time, you'll do great:) so enjoy your new job:)
