I would paint them and put them near or around a beautiful shrub or flowers, or you can put them on or around a wishing well with plants, birdhouses, etc..

You could use them as a trellis as suggested above, but you might have to add some string or wire to help the plant grow up them. Depending on how many shutters you have.... I would fasten them together and use them like a Japanese standing screen. You would need at least three to do this. You could then set it on your porch or patio as a "privacy fence." You can attach small pots at different levels and plant a pansy in each one. Then paint each shutter a fun color and you have instant art!

I've got one above my bed. It's painted a nice neutral color, and it's got beading along one side of it. I think something like that could easily be adapted for outside.
