Funchy: I do accept evoloution occurs! My question is specifically about why people seem to think that the fact that monkeys and apes are still alive means that people didn't evolve from a common ancestor with them.? I don't understand their thinking when they say this.

They're trying to give 'scientific' proof of their religious beliefs. There is no logic in it, only rationalizing.

Their understanding of evolution is nil, they draw their conclusions from a caricature of evolutionary theory presented by creationism proponents.

Many people are unaware of the phylogenetic establishment placing humans and other extant primates as descendants from a common ancestor. This would explain why great apes and monkeys still exist in their "primitive" form while we are the "advanced" species.

You have to accept the fact evolution does occur. Evolution explains where there are so many differnet species on this planet, how species change over time, and how new species can evolve from significantly different populations.

We are animals having all the properties of the primates except we have more intelligence. Why couldn't we have evolved from them?

The only reason folks won't consider this is because it threatens their religious beliefs.
