Today's band, not the 70s

"Hot" is a relative thing. Many frontmen who are not "hot" in the traditional sense become "hot" because they are the lead singer of a band --- I don't think that Chad Kroger (Nickelback), the late Layne Staley (Alice In Chains), John Popper (Blues Traveler), Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson), or Johnathan Davis (Korn) are particularly hot in the abstract, but many women find them attractive outside of that. Look at those guys and tell me if they weren't in a band you'd give them the time of day... They certainly don't fit the traditional "hot guy" stereotype.

Going back to the 70's first, Ann Wilson from heart. about twenty years in the past I spoke of a live performance clip (from possibly 'seventy six or 'seventy seven) with the band playing "loopy On You" and....ok, she replaced into quite, quite warm in that overall performance. For now i'd could say Tarja. I picked up the Nightwish "end of an era" DVD very last weekend, and her degree presence and effective making a music are some thing else back.

Of course they can. There are lots of bands that have had or do have UGLY lead singers, and they made it. But that only applies to bands with actual talent, where the musicians actually play instruments.

Maybe, but usually people do look for the major attraction factor. Still, talent usually rules out everything. If your band is talented, it will take them far, no matter if the lead isn't so hot.

Being a lead singer seems to make people hot, look at Mick Jagger from the Stones. He is one ugly mutha' but girls dig him because he's a rock star.

fall out boy's lead singer isn't cute but the bass player is - maybe one good-looking person is enough for a band

I think so. That and after you start listening to someone's music skills they start looking better. I mean the guys in Fall Out Boy are alright looking. But now after hearing Patrick's singing and the fact that he writes the music. It makes him hotter. Just like after reading Pete's lyrics I found him to be hotter. Once you get to know someone more and they show sides of themselves (not a refference to Pete's photos, lol) I think that makes them stand out a bit more in your eyes.

have you even seen shaun Morgan from Seether? He could break mirrors, but his voice is incredible.
I dont know about oyu but I decide on if a band is good by their sound not their music video or their looks.

Have a look at Rush or Motorhead. Very successful...Un-hot singers.
