I don't believe distractions have a damn thing to do with writers block. Writers block is just an excuse that holds no weight at all. Writers write, that is what we do. But distractions are a dime a dozen, much the same as ideas.
I believe it is fear. Fear of writing something great, and or fear of writing something horrible. I allow distractions to interrupt when I remember that there may come a day when others will be reading and scrutinizing all of my carefully placed words that I slaved over for so long.
Writing is easy. Continuing to write is where the real dedication is needed. Someone above me said in their answer about the subconscious mind working through the story in our minds while we do other things. I cannot agree more. So don't fret too much when you lose time toward your writing. Just get back into it once you realize the err of your ways. But the harder you are on yourself about it, the harder it will be to get back to it from fear of stopping again and being reprimanded by your own self.
Good Luck

Whenever this happens to you (and it happens to a good deal of writers) stand up, walk away from the computer for a few minutes, and then do whatever it takes to write. This happens because when all is said and done, writing is actual work. We writers love to create, come up with lively, interesting characters, and brilliant plot ideas; but to put it all down on paper (or on your hard drive) takes work. No one really wants to work. Give your self a deadline to accomplish certain tasks. Make the first deadline for something small, such as writing ten pages by the end of the day. Then when you get used to that structure, build on it and set loftier goals. Enjoy doing all that makes writing fun (plot, characters, dialog) but practice the craft of writing by training yourself with a deadline and a routine. Good Luck!

I can always tell when I have a play I want to write because I clean my apartment -- anything but write. I think it's a way of getting my mind in an orderly place so I can conentrate on the act of writing. It could just be that I'm afraid the play won't come out as good as I think it is in my head and so I'm avoiding writing it, but I try not to believe that.

Maybe it is fear, I don't know, I always spend ages staring at this screen thinking I really ought to and want to be doing something else but the gap between thinking about it and doing it seems unbridgable. I guess the only remedy is to get strict with yourself but then writing is something that can be going on beneath your consciousness while you are not doing it and not going on at all when you try to do it. So you might not be able to write it when you think you should be but it inevitably winds itself together at the most inconvenient moment. Just count any distraction down to research.

I'm with the dude who answerd first, you could be having writers block. Just don't worry about, take a break and relax, or if you can, add it into your story if it fits into the plot. The point is your making a book! and if it gets published I wanna no! And Yahoo! answers is fun!
O and by the way you sound like a writer from the way you wrote your question.

you are addicted to yahoo answers and you feel that you will get ideas on yahoo answers instead of sitting at your desk with your book you are trying to write.
