I've heard that participants do love their electroshock therapies. The shock does not seem to do permenant damage, -and they say it helps them with their depression typically.

Labotomies are pretty bad. Not that they are morally wrong, when they're done correctly, but the learning curve of the industry and a particular doctor is costly when they do it wrong. How can a doctor say "the first 5 labotomies I did we're pretty much botched, -but now I'm good at it". -That's immoral and wrong.

Since when do doctors or group stop doing something simply since it's illegal. Simply, hospitals would not 'allow' these procedures to be done, but somewhere / somehow, a doctor would try to perform one.

I don't think lobotomies are done any more.

ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) is still done, but only for extreme cases of depression, where the patients are not functional and medication is not working. It is done under anesthesia, with muscle relaxants to prevent soreness. It can have a remarkable effect on some patients when all else has failed.

ECT is still considered to have some therapeutic use for patients with severe depression. Lobotomy has been totally rejected as a form of therapy.

My sister was in a very deep mental state at one point in her life. She could not communicate at all, she slobbered and wandered the hospital halls all of the time. Her doctor suggested electro therapy and she had about 25 treatments. She is doing great now. She works and drives and lives a normal life. She is still on meds, but everything is good. I don't think it should be outlawed.
