I am trying to test ldap and if it is configured but I have never set up ldap I was under the assumption it was installed automatically with Windows 2003. Any idea how to test connections to see it will quey email addresses?

Well to start with, a Windows 2003 domain is based on Active Directory which is an LDAP compliant directory. Therefore, if you can log in then it's working! LDAP is just a protocol for talking to directories such as AD.

Next thing you can do is use a browser with it. Fire up Internet Explorer and put in the address of the machine hosting the directory but instead of putting in http://, put in ldap://. You will then be able to search the directory using the LDAP protocol.

Try in Outlook 2003.

Open Outlook, (configure it first).

Got to tools>E-mail accounts, then please click on the third radio button names as "Add a new directory ar address book" and hit next. Now highlight LDAP and hit next.
Give the server name and provide the logon information.
Finish the wizard and check whether you are able to work with LDAP.....

Try an application that uses LDAP to query Active Directory. Make sure you check your LDAP ports.
