I went to a Dr. for new contacts a couple of days ago and he prescribed me a different brand of contacts b/c he said they were "breathable" even though I had no problems before with my other contacts. They worked great.

Well he gave me these temporary ones that they give you after a visit to wear until your new ones arrive. Maybe it's just me, but they seem a bit bigger than the ones I used to wear.

They have been irritating my eyes and making them itch and turn very very red, especially in my right eye. Unlike my old ones, every once in a while I can feel them in my eyes when I blink.

Anyone know what could cause this? I've never had problems with contacts before. I'm just worried that when my new ones come, they'll be like this.

It can't be that I'm allergic to the solution...I've used it for years and I even used it the day I went to the Dr.. Never once had a problem.

Doctors will sometimes get freebees for perscribing new meds to pts. The doctor or his staff might be giving you the new contacts to win a trip, get an office party... ect.
If you don't like how the contacts fit, tell the doctor that they are not comfortable and you want to stick with your old brand. When he talks about the breathability of the new ones, be polite and explain that you have no problem with your old brand and you don't want to switch. If there is a problem with letting you have your old brand back, tell him that you will go to a different doctor and tell all of your friends about how rude he is and you will report him. But only do the last if you have talked and talked and refuses to let you go back to your old brand.

I have worn contacts for over 20 years without ever having a problem...until...one morning I woke up and my right eye was very red and everything was blurred. I called the eye doctor immediately, only to find out I had a corneal ulcer. Could have been very serious (could have caused blindness) if I hadn't gone right away. The doctor told me I have very dry eyes and it would be best to wear glasses for at least 2 months. I did that and everything got better. I put the contacts in after that and continued to wear them for awhile, but once the redness started up again, I gave them up. Hated to do it, but...hey...better safe than sorry! Check and make sure you don't have anything seriously wrong with your eyes before you attempt to try new contacts.

Try changing ur solution..maybe u r allergic to that.
I m sure u must be using soft lens. Try using re-wetting eye drops every hour.It really helps!
I guess u just need getting used to..wear them everyday and I'm sure u'll be fine in a week.

Could be you are allergic to the new lens themselves. Not all lens are made the same. I would go back to the ones I use to wear.

this happened to me as well. the contacts feel different because your eyes arent used to them. thats why u can feel them when u blink. when u go back to your eye doctor mention it to him and he will measure your eyes again for you just to make sure the contacts arent too big for your eyes.

yeah, i agree,
try changing your solution,
or let them sit in solution for longer periods of time,
and if that doesn't work,
try changing it
