A bowel of cherries sounds very uncomfortable, if not painful.

The origin of the cliche is unknown, as far as I can find.
However, Humorist Erma Bombeck had a book titled "If Life Is A Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing In the Pits?"
And the nearest I can find to an origin is the song "Life Is Just A Bowl of Cherries" by Lew Brown and Ray Henderson from 1931, just at the beginning of the Depression:
Life is just a bowl of cherries.
Don't take it serious; it's too mysterious.
You work, you save, you worry so,
But you can't take your dough when you go, go, go.
So keep repeating it's the berries,
The strongest oak must fall,
The sweet things in life, to you were just loaned
So how can you lose what you've never owned?

It was Erma Bombeck and it was something like "If Life Is A Bowl Cherries, Why am I in the Pits".
I read this about 15 years ago so I am not exactly sure on the title.

No one said it was a "Bowel of cherries" but someone DID say "Bowl of cherries"

Whoah! this is quite yucky, if you imagine it....but yeah, someone did say it is a bowl, not a bowel, of cherries...for the latter, we just have to keep finding out who said bowel!!!!

I don't know but I'd like to find out. I was depressed and wanted to take my life but due to confusion re the above saying I took a bowl of cherries instead and was violently sick.
