I have the same problem! Maybe using flashcards can help? Try using one of these:

To learn a little about how to use effectively flashcards, read here:

And, of course, try to use your vocabulary. The more you practice it, the easier to remember it.
If I find a difficult word to learn, I just write it on my screen with one of those markers for whiteboards. After a couple of days, the word is mine :p
You can also try to stick post-its to things around you (but many words are not suitable for this).

I learn vocabulary by substituting English words that sound the same as the foreign word. For example, the Arabic word for "horseman" is "faarisun" so I pictured a horse with "fairies on" the horse. The word for "lamb" is "kharuuf" so I pictured a sheep on a "car roof".

The other tip is frequent repetition. Review new vocabulary once the same day, then after 2, 4, 8 and 10 days.

Flash cards. I think the best way to memorize stuff is to look at it over and over again. Study whatever it is routinely and it will get burned into your memory.

You might have heard of this theory before, but it really works! Play the language you want to memorize during your sleep and you will subconsciously pick it up!

if it's a single long word, break the words up. for example, 'Onomatopoeia' - ' ono / mato / poe / ia'.. i think of it as, ' one mad poe ee yer'.Poe is a horror writer.
Onomatopoeia means word sounds like 'meow', 'quack', 'boom'.

if it's a long phrase or paragraph, try visualising the meaning of the words you'll get hte concept adn in time, memorize it as well.
