It measures different components of what "societies" find valuable.

The word 'Economics' is Greek and means, "Family -House hold - Estate". Since families were the primary concern about 5,000.00 years ago, it makes sense that a household would want to measure how it operates. As families grew, it became necessary to measure trading/bartering within the "tribe", "culture", and "society". Hence, we now have created ways to measure almost everything relating to what we want (good/services). Society revolves around what we want; which money has helped reduce the confusion ... so we all want $$$.

It's a social science because, while mathematical equations and chemical processes and other natural sciences may be relatively constant albeit with variables, economics, too, has some constants, but the constants and the variables have to do with the choices of individuals.

Because soocial science are unperfect, a huge part of this science are based on the human comportment. So that's why it's a human science. And, everybodys knows that tip : "What prevision are worst then the meteorological prevision ? Economist prevision.".
