Is it an internal hard drive or an external hard drive?

For external hard drive, you need to be able to connect it to your computer using a USB port. It should just connect to the laptop in the back.

For internat hard drive:
Remove the caddy from the laptop
Shutdowns the Laptop computer, unplug the power cord, remove any batteries and disconnect any additional wires connected to the laptop (including modem or network cables).

Flip the laptop over. Locate the screw that release the hard drive caddy and remove it.

Slide the hard drive tray out from the laptop.

Remove the hard drive from the caddy
Remove the screws that attach the hard drive to the hard drive caddy. You will need these screws later so do not discard.

Remove the hard drive with the ribbon attached from the tray. Pay particular attention to the placement of the connector on the ribbon that is positioned in the caddy as you will need to reposition this connector to the caddy when installing the new hard drive.

Carefully slide the ribbon out of the connection to the hard drive. Pay particular attention to the position of the cable as you will be inserting the connector to the new hard drive in the exact position.

Install the new hard drive to the caddy
Connect the ribbon to the new hard drive in the same fashion that it was removed from the old hard drive. Be careful not to bend any of the pins.

Place the new hard drive in the caddy and position the ribbon in the same position as when it was removed.

Secure the new hard drive in the caddy with the mounting screws.

Insert the caddy into the laptop
Making sure to have the caddy in the correct position, inert it into the drive slot until it is firmly seated.

Replace the hard drive mounting screw.

Replace the batteries and power cord.

Hello, you havent told what type of Hard Drive you have, I understand that it was an internal and not a USB, if that was the case you cant connect your 120Gb HDD to your laptop, unless if it is designed for a laptop computer, if it is for a Laptop you need to seek the help of a Hardware Technician to install it in your Laptop. Or you can call me I can install it for you free of charge.....

There are parallel port IDE enclosures that will allow you to connect a 3.5" HDD to the laptop.

However, it sounds like the laptop is old enough that the BIOS probably doesn't support booting from it, so it would only be useful for storing data.

Also, the parallel port is significantly slower than the IDE bus.

If you are talking about an external HDD,just connect through the USB port.If its internal, you have to get a SATA cable which is available in the market and at a reasonable price.
