My friend who I won this for on ebay is unsure. I'm wondering if I've just wasted my money.

No a 2.5 HD is a laptop HD. However you may not have lost your money. All you need to do is look for an old laptop Hard drive. Check with your friends and family. You might try second hand stores too. As long as it is from the last 3-4 years it should fit.

2.5" External drive cases are for laptop sized hard drives. If it came from a PC (desktop), then nope. If it came from a laptop, then maybe.

NO, the drive is 3.5 inches.. The enclosure is 2.5".. do the math...

Now, if you cut it up right, you can fit it in 4 2.5 external case.. How big is the drive?

yes, is waste of money , it can not , but there is another bay for it that it can be use as external hard-drive th size is larger than 2.5inch
