Well,I would say the worst military decision was either Hitler "invading" Russia - but then again,if he wouldn't have failed at Stalingrad, imagine what the world would be like today...
But Bush invading Iraq is a tight vote.I think this whole War on Terrorism is a screw-up...
Bush is sadly playing the wrong cards.

General Santa Ana continuing the tradition of taking a siesta at the battlefield of San Jacinto (near Houston, TX): the Texas forces surprised him and his men during their post-luncheon siesta, capturing Santa Ana with his"friend." She became known as the Yellow Rose of Texas for her yellowish skin color (she was a Mulatto). Remembering the slaughters at Goliad and the Alamo by Santa Ana's forces spurred the mostly volunteer army to capture the general - and the rest is history.

In my opinion Boudica's battle of Watling Street in 61 AD was the dumbest miscalculation. Originally she and her army of Britons were routing the Roman Army by using Guerrilla tactics and the Roman Army was considering withdrawing its forces from the British Isles until Boudica decided to pit her army against the technologically advanced Romans on open ground.

The Romans were outnumbered 20 to one but by retaining their shield wall were able to pin the Britons against their supply carts. They slaughtered them all.

If Boudica had remained using Guerrilla tactics who knows what the outcome would have been?

Possibly Varus in the Teutoberger Wald. He lost three legions, and the expansion of the Roman Empire stalled on the Rhine.

Cain killing his own brother and starting the whole concept of violence, in my opinion.

After that, I'd guess Mao and the Long March where millions died before taking over the country, the govt before them was totally corrupt I admit but the measures were harsh and the results are felt still till today.
