It is because the almond-like eyes attract creatures that eat almonds, like birds and rodents. The birds and rodents come over to our eyes thinking that they are almonds, and then our ancestors killed them and ate them.

Seriously though, there are 3 reasons why human eyes are often narrow rather than round:
1. There is the process of genetic drift, that is, the accumulation of random traits within a population so long as those traits do not interfere with survival.
2. Eyes are vulnerable, and covering part of the eyes reduces that vulnerability without having to reduce the size of the retina.
3. The shape of the eyes has a corresponding psychological aesthetic impact on people, such that people with different character traits have preferences for different eye shapes, which causes sexual selection.

I think it has to do with the fact that the races that have this trait developed in cold, icy climates. In order to protect the eyes from the glare and the cold and the wind, the opening is narrower. This also may account for the darker colored eyes among these races.

well it is genetic, asians eyes are like how they are because those people originated in the desert so extra fat was formed over there lids to protect from the sun, but it got cold at night so thats why grows down like white people, black people hair grows out to protect there heads from the sun since they developed on a hot continent and didn't need warmth from there hair

eh.... evolutionary.... rabbits have sort of almond eyes, maybe they have more rabbit genes... LOL or you have more almond genes when your ancestors were evolving from almond trees...

duh.... humans come from humans. check your human ancestors :-) God made humans and we can track our genes even to Adam and Eve.
