If this is a condition that has recently developed or gotten worse, you might have a drive that is on the verge of failing.

There are quite a few moving parts inside. It's possible that the lubrication is wearing off and friction is starting to take its toll. To be on the safe side, I would do yourself a favor and make some backups.

Getting an external USB 2.0 hard drive is a great way to backup laptops, unless you already have a DVD burner built in.

The noise could be quite a number of things and can come from a lot of places such as fans and hard drives. The laptop seems to be fairly new so here is what it could be in order of preference:

1. fragmented hard drive (hd) - if it sounds like the drive is accessing data all the time, then try degragging the hard drive.
2. inherently noisey hd - nothing u can do other than getting it replaced
3. dry spot on the bearing
4. noisey fan.

The best thing to do is to see if you can identify the source of the noise. A screw driver tip placed on various places on the PC might help pinpoint the location. The location might help make isolating the problem easier.

Replace the Hard-drive with one that quieter...other than that, live with it....cheap Hard-drives make noise...expensive ones are extremely quiet..

No, I'm quiet and neat while I chunk. Once I attempted consuming potato chips while my dad used to be within the residing room. With his ever-reward humorousness he exclaimed, "Kate! Wouldja' please wrap the ones matters in cotton earlier than chewing 'em?!"
