Just looked thru' some of your answers and saw the usual crop of religous nuts claiming their's was the only true path. After a lifetime study of comparative theology I have come to the conclusion that all the world's religions contain the same central core of truth:- Love God, and love your neighbour. Everything else is just window-dressing!

It was not a question of choice until fairly recently. Nobody sat in 16th Century England contemplating becoming a Buddhist.

If you were the Supreme Being, it would make sense to reveal yourself in different ways at different times to address the spiritual ( and temporal ) needs of different people.

Take dietary laws, for example. These make perfect sense in the time, location and context of the people to whom those laws were given. Not a very good idea to eat prawns and pork in the middle east before the refrigerator came along.

Christ's message of peace, love and and turning the other cheek was never going to go down particularly well in the violent nomadic culture of pre-Islamic Arabia. It needed a creed like Islam to get those guys closer to God.

The essentail message in all the Great Religions is the same, when you think about it. It is only the little stuff... the worldy stuff ..like what to eat, wear, do on certain day...the outward expressions of religion that differ.

Horses for courses....

The God of this system who wants to take the worship away from the true God Jehovah, Satan has authored many different Religions to confuse people, and to make them give up in searching for God, thereby falling into his trap ,and end up worshiping him instead of The true God Jehovah. And he seems to be having great success with confusion, people are really confused good and proper!

I think he wanted it spread across the world, so he told the same thing to a person over there and a fella over here and that, and it's like chinese whispers. They're all going God didn't say that he said this and they're fighting over it and going out into different religions, if they had a dictaphone in those days none of this would have happened!

Because people mix their beliefs with the the teavhings and develop things to fit their lifestyle. It's all about seeking the truth. There is one God and people best get in where they fit in a church setting. Like I think the baptists churches are a little sad and slow. I'm a more up beat and get in the aisle and dance kind of person so I'm pentecostal C.O.G.I.C. It's all about where you fit in but the church you attend or who you follow should be teaching from the Bible.

Because people all have different ideas of who and what God is and try to find better ways to worship God, all thinking their particular religion is the best way or the most truthfilled way.

Because people chose and create religions to collect power.... religions are counter productive to nature as it distorts the diversity of people by trying to make them all the same. Each town/city/village is meant to be ran like it's own Eco system. Religions seek out and destroy these differences. What is counter productive to nature is counter productive to GOD.

oh my god, I always ask myself this question! I, personally don't believe in God. Because if only one God has created the world, then why do different religions pray for differet Gods? They should all be worshipping the same god

Religion was developed in all areas of the earth to account for all of the unanswerable questions of the world. Since they were all in different areas of the world, they all came up with different accounts of what their religion actually is. If they all came up with the same answer, religion would be far more credible in my book.

He didnt 'come up' with them. People misconstrue things, twist and distort them until one truth has 5 different perceptions. At the end of the day thats all hte different religions are; different perceptions on common themes.
