No, I doubt it.
Taiwan will never reunite with the PRC. That's a very bad idea. They'd promise them semi-autonomous rights & a free economic zone, and then they'd crack down like they have in hong kong. Taiwan knows better form that example.
China will soon desperately need the undersea oil rights it would gain by taking Taiwan, but they're pretty smart. I can't see them going to war unless or until they have jus the right balance of power. Watch for the Shanghi Cooperation Organization swinging the balance on that issue, and the formalizing of the currently developing alignment between Japan, the US, Australia, & other pacific nations. I see a cold war as more likely with Taiwan holding the positon of Berlin, but with war much more likely.
As much as I'd like to see it, I don't know how Taiwan can declare independence w/o starting world war three. If a situation that makes it possible comes along than they'll jump on it instanatly, but China would have to be very distracted & I don't see how that could happen w/o the US involved.

I think a president even dumber than Bush (techinically it CAN happen) will come along to finish the plan once and for all.
US will disarm the whole world and then launch a massive attack via Hollywood mind-programming. People like those in Taiwan who don't have blonde blood running through their veins will not cope, and sooner than instantly, they'll be all extinct. A lot of countries will be emptied.
Blondes will try to occupy them but will get lost and die.
Animals will evolve into selfish monsters who can't accept the evil inside them all and will figure we all died because of a meteoryte that crushed against the earth (the moon). Then it bounced off and became the evil moon that it is.
Peace out!!

Taiwan should have been recognized as an independat nation years ago. But PRC won't go for in in the UN. I'm not sure where you are going with the 2010 part of your question.

No, Taiwan is an island from China and therefore a part of it. What would happen in New York if Manhattan would call for independence???

Taiwan is a vital ally of the US. Though china may take steps to acquire it, it is against security council acts and will only have devastating consequences both in its relationship with US and its asian neighbours.

Depends who you ask. If you ask mainland China - They will never freely give-up Taiwan. Ask Taiwan they won't acknowledge their authority unless forced.

They will be independent. China is crapping themselves that rogue N.Korea is threatening a missile launch, supposedly in our direction. That is because China knows what we will answer with. One Love People.
