You could ping it offcourse. Just type "ping hostname" into the console/prompt.

If you are using an operating system that has a command line (or access to line like Windows) use the ping command followed by the web site of interest. For example:
ping www.yahoo.com

If you are using Windows, click "Start" -> click "Run", type cmd in the popup window. A black popup window will come out. Type ping www.abcd.com inthe black window, it will display the IP address for www.abcd.com.
