at start up my computer has a window that says pchnotify what does it mean, how do i stop it coming up?

Assuming Windows XP...
Go to the start button and click on Run
Type in: msconfig
Click on the Start Up tab
You will see a list of programs that are loaded when your computer starts up
Uncheck boxed (and reboot) until you find the one that controls the pchnotify. You can recheck any of the boxes to turn things back on. You will probably find several things you can turn off that you don't really need to load all the time.
