Only "large" celestial objects are round. Small ones, like asteroids, can be any shape.

It is the high gravity of large objects that makes them round. As they accumulated from smaller pieces, any piece that was out of round was pulled by gravity "downhill" so the overall shape of the body is round.

Hi do u like astronomy??? ........I do a lot so i just thought of sharing it with u.am sure u would have heard of big bang theory. well all these planets, stars etc from a huge cloud of dust particles.once the gravitational forces started it exploded. they say that particles that would have come in the near vicinity of the sun got attracted due to the sun's gravitational force and thus they started to revolve round the sun for years 2gether.there are other forces or rather causes that would have caused for the shape of planets. hope u r satisfied.

Gravity pulls everything to the center causing a spherical shape.

Gravitational forces come to play only when you have a fairly large object such as a planet or a star.

Originally, the Interstellar Design Council labored long and hard over this point -- and finally concluded that shopping malls would not service humans nearly as well if they were spherical -- hence, that shape was reserved for stellar bodies.

It always comes down to shopping, if you think about it...
