high speed usb is 2.0, which is faster as long as you have 2.0 on your computer. its compatible with 1.1, but wont run fast if you dont have usb 2.0 installed in your computer. you can buy a usb 2.0 card and upgrade your computer.

the high speed allow fast reading of the data, from the usb devices and is usually allow the low speed of 1.1 to be read if supported device is 1.1 but may not read it fast, but if the device is ultra or fast device too, the High speed USB Port are 2.0

I'm not sure about the physical difference, but they both accept the same input, and high speed is about 10x faster than normal
