It's when the rear-end breaks loose and you sort of skid out of control around a corner but end up facing the right way to gun it when the tires catch and ZOOM through turns like lightning.

Drifting is basiclly making your car slide but only its a controlled sliding meaning the car slides to the left and your keeping control of it rather then hitting a wall or something.

go watch fast and the furious tokyo drift or play some need for speed underground its controlled sliding around corners

better seen on video than in words. used for sharp turns and angles with tweaking ur brakes.
