I like anything by Hayao Miyazaki. He has an amazing vision and pretty much anything he or one of his proteges has done is a winner.
Try Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds or Castle in the Sky if you like sweeping epics or Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service or My Neighdor Totoro if you prefer your anime cute.
