Why do the Westerners oppose to those who like dog meat?

Every country has its own culture and society right? So if we like dog meat it is our business. We dont ask the Westerners to try it or cook it, so they cannot just judge us on that, can't they?

Dogs are their most beloved pets, they are friendly and loyal to them. Dogs are smart, cute, dogs can guard your house, protect you in some accidents (like in movies), etc. So even thinking of eating dogs is a disgusting idea, they can't stand it.

Its called ethnocentricity. Although I would personally never eat dog meat, I understand differences between cultures. I own two dogs, and they are considered family members--would you eat a family member? I think most Westerners think of dogs in a similar way. (Most) Dogs can express emotion and they make wonderful companions. If you want to eat dog meat, that is completely up to you. I won't judge you on that because I know it is a cultural preference. I'm sure Hindus don't like the fact that we eat a lot of cows over here. I think most Westerners have the biggest problem when they hear about dogs being eaten in their own countries.

Its hard to see why eating pets would be acceptable, in any culture. Thats like saying westerners shouldnt judge cannibals because its their culture.

Simply put, as much as you have a right to do what you want in your country, we have the right to say that its not cool.

I try to be open minded about most things in life but I am disgusted and offended that anyone would eat a dog. There are plenty of foods out there for you to stuff yourself with. Leave Lassie alone.

Because many Americans feel that dogs and cats were people in a previous life and are being given a second chance to improve themselves in this life. That would be like eating your great-grandparent, and that is cannibalism!
