Photons are produced by the sun in it´s core, because it is only there that fusion takes place. But the plasma of the sun is dense
and the photon is continuously absorbed and re-emitted during its rise to the surface. Hence the photon will take about a million year to make the trip.

And 8 minutes 20 seconds more to travel from the surface to the earth.

Depends on whether the sun is at aphelion, perihelion, or somewhere inbetween.

Perihelion (sun at its nearest to earth)was on 4th January this year and aphelion (sun at its most distant from the earth) will be on July 2nd.

In January when we're closest to the Sun (perihelion), the distance is 147.5 million km. In July we will be 152.6 million km away--a five million kilometer difference.

At Aphelion it takes 509.3 seconds (8 minutes 29.3 seconds) for light to make the journey, but at perihelion, a mere 492 seconds (8 minutes 12 seconds) are needed. A difference of 18 seconds in 6 months, or 3 seconds a month.

eight minutes and twenty seconds. If you see sun rise in the east, it means that 8 minutes 20 seconds before, the sun would have risen.
