I love columbus and I also love Asheville
In Columbus you have to go to the zoo and see the manatee exhibit. You should go to COSI and see the Star Wars exhibit.
There is an amazing Topiary Garden at Old Deaf School Park.
For shopping check out Eaton place. For eclectic shopping and art galleries check out the short north.
For the best food in Columbus go to Schmidts Sausage Haus in German Village, very good german sausages and huge cream puffs.
In Asheville, there is nothing better then touring the Biltmore Estate. It is amazing. When I visited I experienced a ghost in the servants quarters, it was amazing. The winery on the estate is amazing, with samples aplenty. Just outside of the Biltmore Estate property is Ashevilles best side of town. About 20 art galleries, a variety of specialty shops and many restaurants await. I remember eating at a quaint cafe filled with cookie jars, as well as "The melting Pot" fondue restaurant, when I was there.
I wish you the best on your trip. Those are two wonderful spots.

Lots to do in Columbus - excellent zoo, Ohio State Univ., German Village (lots of beer), Franklin Park (nice flowers), COSI, hands on exhibits)Ohio Historical Center, Baseball (AAA). Good food also. As with any big city, traffic can be jammed in many areas.
