Philadelphia and Bucks county which is about 30 miles from Philly are both great places to live. I too am from CA. Whatever you do DO NOT move to Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. Thats where I live now and I am trying desperatly to get back to Philly. The rent is cheap here but the people are very rude, nasty, and clickish here. Plus the taxes they take out of your paycheck is outrageous. If you were not born and raised here, you will not fit in. Everybody knows everybody and everybody is related to everybody. Hope this helps.

Not sure of where in Pa you are moving to, but we do have a lot of nice plus areas around here. We have the Poconos, which may not be the mountain areas you may be accustomed to, but it's still nice, especially in the fall. I live in northeastern Pa and I love this area. I hated it when we moved here from Jersey City when I was a kid, but after seeing the scenic overlooks, the waterfalls (I have photographed over 140 different ones already in this part of the state), the beautiful drives to the middle of nowhere. It's a nice place, just depends on what you're looking for. We also have the most authentic covered bridges of any state in the US.
I'll list my personal website to give you a peek at some of the stuff up my way.

HAHAHAHA, this made me laugh. My boyfriend called me and told me to answer this question. I can give you plenty of reasons to change your mind about moving to southern Cali. I was born and raised in Riverside County. In a little city called Mira Loma (kind of a village of Riverside about 10 minutes from down town). Back in the 80's it was a wonderful place to live. However, not so much anymore. To start, the cost of living in California is so high, that my mom's little half acre of land is worth over 300,000 dollars. Not only that, but during the summer, the smog is so bad, that not even1 mile ahead is visible. I used to live where you could see the mountains from my front yard. Not during the summer. It's so bad, that you can see the haze of smog sitting in trees a quarter of a mile down the road. The traffic, don't get me started. I used to drive a 25 miles to Orange County every day for work. It would take me an hour in the morning to get there and an hour and a half in the evening to get home. The streets and freeways are way crowded and you should plan to sit in traffic every day. Riverside is surrounded by Rialto, Ontario, Moreno Valley, Corona, Orange County, and on to Los Angeles county. So it is one big huge metropolitan area. Not only that, but the sprawl (development houses that are 5 feet apart, 500,000+ per house in cul-de-sacs surrounded by walls) is absolutely the worst I have ever seen. I had read that Riverside County was number 2 had the biggest sprawl development behind Florida. Mira Loma used to be farm land and now has been bought and built over by more developers only to put more people than the freeways and streets can handle. Not to mention that illegal aliens are the absolute worst! They are disgusting, will blast their horrible music at all hours of the night, throw trash in their yards, pee outside in broad daylight, and can't freaking drive!!!!!!!!!!! Also, like someone had mentioned, Meth! I read somewhere that Riverside and San Bernadino was one of the top 10 cities with the biggest meth problem. Now Riverside IS 45 minutes from L.A. and about 30 or 40 minutes from the nearest beach and mountain, but totally not worth it. I moved out of California and I will NEVER go back!!! I am now happy in Louisiana. My family still lives there and I hear that crap is still hitting the fan. Anywho, if you still want to move to California, Northern Cali is beautiful. You have access to the beach and mountains all in one. Above San Fran of course. Hope this changes your mind before you make a HUGE mistake.

Depends on money. I love New Hope! It is in Upper Bucks County. It is right next to the Delaware River. It is full of history. Close to Washingtons Crossing! Yes! George Washington. PA is good because you are near the NJ beaches, close to NY and DC. You can live in the city(Philly) or live in the country(Lancaster, That is where the Amish are). Good Luck!

I personally hate pa. i live in the lehigh valley which is the third largest city in pa. Philly 1 an pittsburgh 2. I personally hate it here. there is not much to do. whenever my n ma peeps go out to do sumthin we always end up leaving the state. Now philly is not too bad but it not necicarilly the safest either. ive been out west before and like the one person said before about people being rude n such is all true. people out west r so much nicer than people out here. Seriosly unless you are moving for a fantastic job r to go to school i would reconsider the move. or actually maybe you should come visit for a week but make sure to come in the winter because that is the sort of temps u r probably not used to. Thats the only advice i really can give u since i plan to move out west and get the hell out of here within the next year. good luck and if u decide to move here then i hope u like it. ( n to be honest the only people who like it here r the ones who have lived here their entire lives and have never been anywhere different in their lives, and the ones from new york because of how cheap the cost of living is compared to NY)

I love the weather of Pennsylvania except for the snow. But Fall is a great time of year. You should go to Hereshy park, or go to the mall @ King of Prussia its soo nice there! And Lancaster is a great place to go, since I'm from there, a lot of things to see there.
Have fun =]

Right outside of Philly. It has a lot of really neat pieces of history. For example, there is a home there that was built when George Washington was 6 (1738), and another that was built sometime in the 1600s!

well berks county and lancaster county offer some good suburbs and are close to the city.....
so you have the chance of getting a good job in the city and not having a far commute....
you can live in small towns and let your children have a good education if you have children. the schools are a decent size if you are in the suburbs once you get into the city the sizes of the classes increase....
i have lived in berks county and lived in lancaster county... went to high school in lancaster county and got a good education.....
