I have been fighting the medical establishment to get help with what is considered a serious back problem for nearly 13 years. It's too typical. It's a slow process and only happens when you are lucky to get to the right person, or place. When you stand, there is direct presure on the nerve there. When walking it is often not the case and so too with sitting. If it doesn't get better (or hasn't after 4 to 6 weeks) start looking. A rare good Chiropractor may help. Physical Therapy may help. You might have to see aan Orthopedic Surgeon, or Neurosurgeon - doesn't mean you will have to have surgery. If caught early, most often thsese things respond to conservsative treatment. For starters, don't stand like that. There's all kinds of info on line (lots of confusion!) and the Arthrhities
Foundation has some good info, even, for those who aren't aflicted. At 45, find it! So you won't be permanentaly disabled like me - why i got this computer - to look for help and learn how to live with it better - no one has really offered to educate me. a friend was told not to gain waeight after back surgeery. I never got that much !! Many say backs were not meant to be upright, but our dog has worse problems than I do (she's well past 15 now, but it began when she was about 7. She's also nearly blind, but still has the same spunk as wehen a year old. Has a lot of guts! Still wants to go in the car and try to walk - sometimes just stands and sniffs - nose and ears are fine.). a good dog can be an inspiration. This one is a Tibetan Terrier (very rare in the U.S.)
Considered good luck in Tibet and Holy by Buddist Monks. Look like minature Old English Sheep Dogs. We thought we'd gotton a wonderful, very hary little mutt from the SPCA. She still seemed really young 3 years ago. Smarter than most humans I know. When the Dali Lama fled Tibet, he brought his Tibetan Terrier with him. She's been lots of help living with the back!
How severe?? Mine was so bad I could harly get 50 yards to the doc's office and he said, "Exercise." What a dummy.

When you are standing are you exacerbating the arch to your lower back? I mean an extended forward arch to stand straight at attention. I ask as this is most common when standing for long periods. You should roll your pelvis forward so that it rests under yourself. Just tilt your pelvis in a down and forward roll. It may seem wierd at first, but if you give it a try and your back pain goes away then good for you! If not, I would definitely see a chiropractor and a massage therapist.
