Sometimes When I get up from sitting or laying down I can feel a surge of dizziness in my head and my vision darkens for a little bit, I become extremely disorientated as well and am wondering if this is normal? It doesn't happen all the time to me, say maybe once or twice a week, other weeks it may happen more or less often as I'm not sure what the cause of it is.

I think you are feeling so because of weakness , even I had such symptoms.
You need to have good breakfast , with veggies etc and less oil food. Then dont forget to have your lunch and dinner , add milk in your diet .
As your haemoglobin level increases , you wont feel gidiness.
try having cod liver oil with milk , that will help you gain good concentration and you will no more feel gidiness.

Check up for blood pressure and health of caratoid arteries. Start getting up in stages. Turn on sides first, rest your hand on bed and slowly try getting up. Sit in the bed first. slow breath for few seconds and then put your leg down. Now stand.
If this also gives you dizziness, squeeze both earlobes and massage them a little.

It rushes out of our heads when we get up. It can make us light headed if our bp is slightly down.
