Whether filled with a "real" family(read: conventional) or just a group of people who have bonded together, a home MUST have genuine open non-dysfunctional relationships, an atmosphere of nurturing interchange and a physical place that facilitates a caring sense of belonging(as opposed to a dreaded sense). If ALL these conditions are well met, you have indeed the "best" home.

a small house surrounded with green plants , away from the city with the best pets like cats , dogs ,etc.
the most important thing - good people nearby.
if it is closer to the sea it's even better.
if i get such a house i would go with my pets to the beach everyday and would have lots of fun there.

a comfortable one is the most important. next, keep it simple but don't make it boring or no one would even look at it. clean, tidy, neat. I don't go for large one cuz then u'll (ur maid?) hav a hard time cleaning it.
