probably... playing any strategic game like chess requires lots of thinking, and so playing can help you learn to think outside the box or to think ahead... also keeps your brain from rusting so that's good right?
lol ^^; hope this helped

Chess is like mental calisthenics. It exercises the brain and stimulates it to develop new neural connections. It will help one's mind maintain its fitness.
However, it is not gonna make you more intelligent. Recent studies cited in the New York Times show that one's IQ score pretty much remains constant throughout one's life. As an example, even if one's mind at 30 is more limber than at 50; and at 50 it is more knowledgeable than at 30 (because of more experience) --- if you are at the 99 percentile of the population for 30-year-olds at 30, you'd be at 99 percentile for 50-year-olds when you turn 50. Your relative intelligence never changes.

studying things like mathematics, new languages, and things like that are the things that grow minds, anyway there s different stages for the brain and intellectual development, the most important is during childhood and has to do with a healthy balanced diet rich in minerals and vitamins that helps the brain and neuronal cells to develope properly if ur diet fails in that stage you will never be a bright person even if u eat the books,

yes, the brain is like a muscle that needs to be exercised or else it grows weak. this is especially true when you become old. chess is an excellent game to enhance your mental sharpness when you get old and it helps delay the onset of alzheimer's disease too.

Yes, it strengthens the mind. Any strategic situation helps you grow. "A mind stretched by an idea, never regains its original state"

I think it grows your mind for as long as it's a challenge. You have to vary challenge if you want to keep up the sharpness and brilliance of your brain.
