I used to download music (a little) until I heard of people getting arrested for it. Now I mostly just rip pawn-shop and flea-market CDs. Is Limewire (and sites like it) legal or are folks just taking their chances with it?

Distributing copyrighted material is just as illegal as ever. But they can't arrest us all, right?

The thing with that is they go actually go after the people that uploading the files aka the distributor, they dont really got after people that downloading it, that's why only a fool that leave they downloaded files in their share folders, because once you uploaded the files, then its a crime, a real crime thats where people got arrested.

Folks are taking their chances somewhat. It seems to be the high traffic users that get into trouble however.

And they aren't selling the music, they're sharing it. It's pretty much a gray area.

Kind of like illegals ("immigrants") - Since so many people are doing it, they don't bother to enforce the rules. I can't see them going after millions of people who download. There would be a riot !
