You really want to transfer the data from your old computer to the new one, not the memory. The data is stored on your hard drive. This can be done easily by getting the hard drive out of your old computer, slaving it on the IDE cable of your new computer (be sure to connect the power cabl also) then boot up. If you installed the old hard drive correctly, you will be able to see all the data through your new computer and you can transfer it directly. There are free software progams that you can download from your hard drive manufacturer which will copy your old hard drive completely and your new computer will look just like the old one.
It would take too long to explain how to slave your old HD to the new computer but you could post your question on CNet.com and someone will give you complete instructions. Or you can ask at Yahoo Search below: "How do I slave my old hard drive to the new one?" If your old hard drive was damaged in the storm, you probably won't be able to retrieve your data, but it's always worth trying.

Check the memory modules see if they fit for one simple check. but foolproof though since there are a lot of similar modules that would work on generic system but not on particular systems. For example, Dell systems are notoriously picky when it comes to memory. Simple check plug it in your new system. First turn off the Pc. Then install. Then boot into bios to check if it is recognized in there. Or you can make alterations based on given options. Hope that helps.
Anyway, when it comes to hardware its a trial and error affair I have learned stuff that way.
Another way. Next time you want to build a system or even now. Get a techie friend and have him run you through stuff he does to fix his system. Eventually by osmosis you will learn stuff from him. After a while you will be amazed your a tech nerd.

If your old computer is not working condition then you just get out old computer's Hard Drive & put it or attach it with new computer if HDD working condition. And transfer your song's & other stuff in to new computer Hard Drive. But it required some Hardware knowledge if you dont know then ask somebody who know how to do this.

In practice, no longer a sturdy theory. The more recent pc only about really has speedier and/or more desirable chips, and could no longer artwork properly with the former ones put in. thinking how less expensive the stuff is those days, one would besides purchase new chips of the perfect style.

your problem is just the hard drives, you should copy the files from your old hard drive to the new one. that if the old drive is functioning, hire a tech to do that, you may fry ur drive out of service, or if you know how to install , make ur old hard drive a slave for ur new pc, then copy the files, or much better, make it a permanent slave so can use it for more data space. i hope my answer helps u.

Is your old computer at all usable?
If so, you can get a USB drive (size depends on how much stuff you want on it) and then switch the stuff over.
I know someone who backs up their entire computer with a 200GB USB drive.

memory you mean hard disk? if it is yes there is no compatibility issue as long as you know how to install it.. make it a slave drive ok?
if you are talking about RAM, make sure that they have the same speed there are many kinds of ram i suggest you search for it
samples of ram are: PC 400 PC 333 DDR... make sure you have the same or else it wont work and check your mother board if it supports that kind of RAM it is usually written in the box of your mother board
