Because Yankee fans, like Steinbrenner, have to find a scapegoat. They can't face reality, and that is that the Yankees this year are mediocre at best. So, what better scapegoat is there than the guy they "bought" to win a pennant last year and failed. So now his high salary and his reputation force the crying Yankee fans to bellow and cry foul!!

Make the world a better place, punch a Yankees fan in the face!
Seriously though, Gay-Rod loves to come through when there is nothing at stake. He is the queen of 3 run dongs when the Yanks are either up by 10 or down by 10. He is anti-clutch.

As a die-hard Yanks fan, I can tell you Gay-Rod sucks because he has great numbers during the regular season and when the playoffs come, he disappears. He is the most over-rated player in sports! With the number of allstars on that team and Gay-Rod being the best paid, we expect a championship and all we have gotten from this guy is disappointment.
Face it, he's a prettyboy choker!

The Yankee enthusiasts must discover anybody to scape-goat. They have rode A-Rod for decades. They rode Torre after which he's long past. They are beginning to experience Giraridi now. They experience CC after he throws a ball to anybody. They identical to guilty whatever or anybody.

A-ROD gets paid the most on the team so they expect him to be the superstar of the game especially now that sheffield and matsui are hurt but players like giambi and jeter are pulling A-ROD's weight.

Because A-Rod is getting paid more than anyone else on the team. He also flops in the clutch, even though I don't beleive in clutch hitting. He is, however, a darn good baseball player.

I think they just need someone to blame it on and he is the perfect target since he makes so much money and all.Since he is said to be one of the greatest he is expected to turn the team around in a good way so when they aren't winning they just blame it on him because he didn't help the tea as expected.

He has the highest salary in sports history. $252 million. With that huge chunk of cash comes a huge load of responsibility.
