i think chemistry works as an art, you just have to embrace its complexity. but then again it is all about inquisity and passion for this subject. so when it is any books will do for you. but if the case is not so, i think books with questions and answers would help you better in understanding. or some books wil come with helpful hints and examples to help you understand the concept better. as for me i like books with extra tips and footnotes at the sides, brief history of the founders, and not to forget, nice colourful visuals helps alot for a visual learner like me.

to make it all the more comprehensive, have a mentor to guide you on some tricky subjects and topics. with such interaction you'd find it more easy to absorb the facts, to actually understand and apply it than just to merely memorizing it.
have fun with chemistry!!

Of course not, just learn to love chemistry, yes there is also a need for someone to explain some other things so that you can fully understand chemistry. For books try: Chemistry by Raymund Chang
