It has nothing to do with the ethnic background. They learn whatever their language is in their environment. My two year old is learning French and English at the same time because we live in a primarily French community. I noticed that she is learning English at about the same rate. She is neither English nor French by birth.

If I am correct there have been numerous studies done that prove that infants understand all languages until a certain point and it is just the language that they are exposed to the most that they learn faster. I personally do not believe it has anything to do with genetics. It is all based on environment.

The Chinese child will pick up a larger vocabulary, faster - because its genes carry the traits of picking up a larger number of linguistic nuances [the Chinese tongue is more intricate and complicated !], than any English infant !
Soon, they will be conversing with each other - with the Chinese baby having an original British accent, while the English child adopts a slangy dialect !

language is learned, and as long as they are both subjected to the same environment, then i think they should both aquire the language at the same time....
It has nothing to do with the genes!

assuming that intelligence is equal, there wouldn't be a difference. language and culture is a function of upbringing and education, not genetics
