The world has the capacity to deal with the dictators destroying the countries of Africa, and the means to control the AIDS crisis, but if we saved those millions of lives every year the world would become overpopulated, and we would be dealing with much worse issues. Could this be a reason why the whole world has turned their back on Africa? and I don't want to hear that we have tried, because we haven't

I think we should take care of our own before we worry about other countries.

after reading these answers, it's apparent that no one has done their homework on Africa...You must all be young and uneducated on the facts.please do your homework...
Africa has been a poor continent in its history since day one. The population is approx. 750,000,000(thats millions)
America has spent millions upon millions of dollars on Africa for more years than you can count........Seriously...There are so many areas of Africa that is almost uninhabitable...
America as well as other countries have aided this continent with more aid, money, food, time, etc, than you know.It is an ever-ending battle....But we, and others continue to help year round.
You have no idea how many countries, and people that America alone help in some way...Money, food , clothing, housing, condoms.(birth control not practiced) hence the large population
Don't put YOUR country down like you always do. Help out.
Like our past President John F. Kennedy said,"Ask not what your country can do for you..Ask what you can do for your country?

Population control is not the reason. Africa doesn't have much population growth. India and China do. It all about quid pro quo, you get something for something. Helping African nations have no return ($$$) for those who can help. Just like when a beautiful girl drops her things on the street, the men will go gaga helping this women, just for the sake of a short human contact with a beautiful person. But when this happens to the least attractive woman hardly any man will help.

The World is mindless and life is unfair.
Intelligent Birth Control should be the answer.
The manufacturers of Birth Control stuff should make more money, enough so that they could bribe the Pope to support it and indeed Promote it. He could make a Personal Tour of Africa handing out Free Condoms from the Pope-mobile - How about That?

OH, my God NO, but we as the American people can not do it all for every one !! We have starving people right here at home, and they are not being helped, we have so many charty party's, balls, fund raisers for every thing, and country, and it is time to wake up and smell the coffee, and take care of our own for a while.. lets get the homeless off of the streets, and into a home and help them support themselves, and become the person they want to be, and be able to support their families again. lets get food to the Americans that need it. lets get clothes and shelter to the Americans that need it.. We have always been so worried about the rest of the world that we are for getting about the people right here in America.. It is way past time to take care of our own !!!! If GW wants our troops to do something bring them home and let them start to build some more homes in the La, Miss. Fl. and all the areas that were hit by the hurricanes and tornadoes. Let them help the American people.. Let them fight the War on Poverty right here in America...

I agree, the world has the capacity to deal with the situations you mention.

However, as an American, I do not want the United States to be involved. Taking that road only gives the rest of the world a reason to continue to call us war-mongering imperialists who are only doing it for oil.

If the United States did anything to help Africa, the world, and liberals, would be up in arms because we were becoming an imperialistic power...we shouldn't be in Iraq, therefore we shouldn't be in Africa.

I can't speak for the rest of the World, but I would guess the United States doesn't do anything because Africa has no natural resources to takeover. Sad but probably true...

You talk about the world like it's a person. The US give a fortune of money, medicine, aid and supplies to everyone on the planet already...Ask the other countries what they are doing about it? If you have a workable plan, let's hear it.

Whats the matter, we don't have enough to worry about.
Do we need to solve all of the worlds problems.
Funny how history books say that civilization started somewhere in that continent. How come they haven't been able to move
towards the 21st century?
Seems a real shame but they have to do it themselves.
Its worth fighting for.

As for the US i dont think it is an issue of overpopulation that keeps AMericans from helping. I think that we have become self absorbed, esp since Katrina, and the majority does not have concern.
